Pear Tree Church is privledged and honoured to be one of the weekly venues for the Derby Churches Night Shelter during the winter months

Derby Churches Night Shelter started in winter 2013 in response to a severe cut in funding for homeless beds by Derby City Council announced in April 2013 and we now have had four seasons coming alongside the homeless in Derby.

Working together to meet the urgent need for safe overnight accommodation for Derby's street homeless, seven church venues in or near the city centre will each open one night per week in rotation. Volunteers will provide a warm welcome and a substantial meal to 35 guests. Paid overnight staff will then take over as guests sleep in sleeping bags on mattresses on the church floor.

If you are interested in volunteering for this, please get in touch with Derby City Mission or The Deacons at Pear Tree for more information. Training is provided and recruitment and training will start later this autumn. Volunteers can be part of meet & greet team, cooking team etc depending on your skills.

If you can not volunteer to help  out on the night at Pear Tree, there are 6 other nights & venues to choose from. We also will need lots of yummy  freshly bakedcakes & biscuits, so you can always bake & drop off to any of the churches involved - & know you will be making a lot of people very happy indeed!

We had a wonderful caring team  with  great guests in 2017 and look forward to giving a helping hand once more this winter.
